International Comprehensive Ocean-Atmosphere Data Set (ICOADS)

International Partnership

ICOADS is now formally managed via an international partnership, under a Letter of Intent (LOI) to Enhance Support for the International Comprehensive Ocean-Atmosphere Data Set (ICOADS) Program through International Partnership, with eight signatories from the US, UK, and Germany. Principal and contributing (indented) partner organizations are listed below:

  1. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI; Lead), USA
  2. Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES), University of Colorado, USA (involved primarily through NCEI)
  3. University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR), acting on behalf of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), USA
  4. Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD)
  5. Center for Earth System Research and Sustainability (CEN), University of Hamburg, Germany (involved primarily through DWD)
  6. UK Met Office
  7. Climatic Research Unit (CRU), University of East Anglia (UEA) (involved primarily through the Met Office)
  8. UK National Oceanography Centre (NOC)
Under the LOI, the ICOADS Steering Committee (ISC) exists to promote ICOADS and to provide scientific oversight and technical input for the Program, with Terms of Reference (ToR) and current Membership as defined in this document.
